The Home Office has expanded its digital service so that family members of EU nationals can now apply for registration documents online.
Registration documents confirm the right to live in the UK. Previously, family members had to send an application by post, while EU nationals have been able to complete their applications online since October 2016. Now, EU nationals can apply online and make online applications on behalf of family members at the same time.
Some of the questions asked online also require less detailed responses than the paper version. The employment history may be proven by P60 annual tax statements alone and a statement confirming the applicant has not been absent for more than 180 days can be submitted instead of a full list of absences.
In a welcome move, they have expanded the service and qualifying family members can now be included in the online application. They can also use the European Passport Return Service, meaning that the entire family can continue to travel whilst the applications are being processed.
At the moment, the Home Office’s position appears to be that this new online EEA application service is not available for family members applying separately to the main applicant.
