On 20th July 2018 the UK Government published a Statement of changes in Immigration Rules containing important provisions relating to the UK’s exit from the European Union.
The new Statement introduces a new Appendix EU to the Immigration Rules to provide for applications by resident EU citizens and others for leave to remain in the United Kingdom under the EU Settlement Scheme.
The Settlement Scheme was outlined in a Statement of Intent published on 21 June 2018.
The new rules will come into force on 28 August 2018 and will be tested initially via a pilot scheme covering students and workers at three Liverpool based universities and 12 NHS Trusts. Applicants meeting the requirements of the scheme will be granted either indefinite leave to remain or limited leave to remain under UK legislation.
