On 15 January 2019, MPs voted by a significant margin of 230 to reject the draft Brexit Withdrawal Agreement.
The agreement, officially called the ‘Draft Agreement on the withdrawal of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland from the European Union and the European Atomic Energy Community’, had been agreed by both the 27 EU members states and the UK Government.
The Government must return to parliament by the close of business on 21 January 2019 to present information on how it intends to proceed.
