We are excited to be part of the London Legal Walk 2024. This charity event, which raises funds to help the most vulnerable in society access life changing free legal advice, attracts teams from all over the UK.
The London Legal Walk 2024 event will take place on Tuesday 18 June 2024.
What is the London Legal Walk 2024?
The London Legal Walk is set up by the London Legal Support Trust (LLST) to raise vital funds to support the most vulnerable members of society in accessing justice.
The LLST’s mission is as follows:
We believe in access to justice. Increasingly, free legal advice agencies are struggling to meet the needs of some of the most vulnerable in our community. However, equality under the law is one of the central tenants of our society. That’s why, every year we bring together tens of thousands of professional to raise funds and awareness of this vital right.”
This year is especially significant for the LLST as it marks the 20-year anniversary of the London Legal Walk taking place in bringing the legal community together to support access to justice.
Carter Thomas Solicitors supporting access to justice
As a law firm specialising solely in immigration matters, we often see first-hand the devastating impact being unable to afford legal fees has on individuals and their families.
Home Office fees have also risen considerably in recent years. This places a significant financial burden on individuals who are required to pay such fees to ensure they can remain lawfully in the UK.
We often undertake pro-bono work to help support individuals who may otherwise be unable to access legal support with their immigration matters. We strongly believe that access justice should be a right, and not a privilege.
We are therefore so pleased to be taking part in walking the ten-kilometre route to help raise awareness for access to justice.
Migrant and Refugee Children’s Legal Unit (MiCLU)
The Migrant and Refugee Children’s Legal Unit (MiCLU) is a specialist legal and policy hub based within Islington Law Centre in London.
MiCLU undertake vital work in representing children who have been displaced by war, fleeing abuse, victims of trafficking and slavery, and young people who have been separated from their families. MiCLU also conduct strategic litigation and policy reform to help drive substantial change and ensure justice for child migrants.
As we are especially passionate about the rights of child migrants, and are appreciative of the work MiCLU conducts, we are raising funds directly for MiCLU as part of our walk.
Donations for MiCLU can be made via their website.
