The Home Office has recently rolled out some significant changes to the way in which international students can switch into the UK’s work related immigration routes.
Effective from 17 July 2023, international students can, in general, only switch into one of the main work related routes if they will have completed their course of study in the UK by the time their employment, as confirmed on the Certificate of Sponsorship, commences. The only exception to this is for PhD students who are permitted to switch into the Skilled Worker route after they have completed 24 months of their PhD.
Affected routes include:
- Skilled Worker
- Global Business Mobility
- Global Talent
- Government Authorised Exchange
- Ancestry
- High Potential Individual
- Innovator Founder
Applications that were submitted before the rules changed on 17 July will be assessed according to the criteria in place at that time.
