UKVI has confirmed by way of a notification on the SMS that a National Insurance number (NINO) is now needed for all Level 1 Users.
In an announcement dated 18 June 2023, UKVI confirmed that the new rule would apply in relation to applications to add new Level 1 Users that were made from 19 June. It will also apply where amendments are being made to the details of an existing Level 1 User.
The announcement stated that if a Level 1 User does not have a NINO, an explanation is required and evidence may be requested to show that an application for a NINO has been made. Failure to provide a valid reason for not having a NINO or applying for one may be a cited as a reason for the refusal of a Level 1 User application.
UKVI has also confirmed that a similar process will be in place for Authorising Officers and Key Contacts later in the year. It is therefore recommended that NINO’s are obtained and updated now for those individuals.
